About the position

The Data Center Technician position at Teledata Technologies in Las Vegas, NV, involves a range of responsibilities focused on the installation and maintenance of data center infrastructure. This role is critical for ensuring that our clients' data centers, including those at Switch and other facilities in the Las Vegas area, are equipped with the necessary physical IT infrastructure. The technician will be engaged in various tasks that require a solid understanding of network architecture and the ability to work with both copper and fiber optic cabling. The technician will be responsible for installing in-cabinet, uplink, and structured cabling solutions, as well as troubleshooting and testing these installations using specialized equipment. A key aspect of the role is the ability to read and interpret blueprints and scopes of work, ensuring that installations meet the required specifications. The technician will also be expected to maintain accurate documentation of the work performed, including as-built drawings and technical updates. Safety is paramount in this role, and the technician will be expected to maintain a safe working environment while performing tasks such as racking and stacking switches and servers, neatly dressing cables, and labeling all components accurately. The position requires a commitment to quality and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with other team members and clients to resolve technical issues as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data center installations for clients at various locations in Las Vegas.
  • Install in-cabinet, uplink, and structured cabling solutions.
  • Design and install network architecture components.
  • Utilize an Incident/Change request application to resolve technical issues.
  • Read and understand blueprints and Scope of Work documents.
  • Neatly lace and dress copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Test and troubleshoot copper and fiber optic cables using cable analyzers and smart network testers.
  • Create and maintain as-built documentation and update technical documents as necessary.
  • Terminate fiber using quick connects and fusion splicers.
  • Track and inventory materials used in installations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment during all tasks.
  • Rack and stack switches and servers as part of the installation process.
  • Label fiber optics and copper cables, patch panels, and racks/cabinets.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in a data center environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work from ladders safely.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl regularly.
  • Willingness to report to the same job site 95% of the time.
  • Availability to work overtime as needed.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties as necessary.
  • Ability to travel 10-15%.
