About the position

The Data Center Technician Level 2 position in Hillsboro, OR, is a contract role that involves assisting the client with the installation and maintenance of critical data center equipment. The technician will be responsible for various tasks including rack and stack operations, troubleshooting common issues, and acting as a level 1 administrator for data center-related problems. This role requires hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and disassembly, particularly in installing heavy GPU trays into systems. Additionally, the technician will be expected to build prototype open board systems on the benchtop and debug issues reported by users. The position also involves triaging and debugging systems to ensure they pass baseline diagnostics, which is crucial for maintaining operational efficiency in the data center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with rack, stack, and installation of key data center equipment.
  • Troubleshoot common issues and work through various tickets.
  • Act as a level 1 administrator for data center issues.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • Install heavy GPU trays into systems.
  • Build prototype open board systems on the benchtop.
  • Triage and debug systems to pass baseline diagnostics.

Requirements

  • Strong data center experience with rack and stack operations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of on-prem large scale data center experience supporting equipment and infrastructure (Power, Space, Cooling, Equipment).
  • Strong cabling skills, cable management, and dressing.
  • Strong network troubleshooting experience, ideally with Supermicro Servers, Infiniband Fabric, Mellanox, and Arista Hardware.
  • Strong attention to detail and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Solid skills in UNIX (Ubuntu or RedHat) administration, including knowledge of commands for monitoring disk failures and debugging systems.
  • Break-fix server expertise, including mechanical assembly/disassembly and changing system configurations.
