About the position

The Data Center Technician position at TekisHub Consulting Services involves a range of responsibilities primarily focused on cabling and termination of fiber optic systems. The technician will be responsible for mounting and installing racks, patch panels, and various hardware components essential for fiber optic installations. This role requires a strong understanding of grounding requirements for racks, equipment, and cables to ensure safety and compliance with industry standards. In addition to installation tasks, the Fiber Technician will conduct various testing procedures, including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables. The use of a volt-ohmmeter is essential for troubleshooting issues such as opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs. The technician will also be responsible for terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as breaking out outside plant fiber and terminating indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber. Accurate and timely completion of paperwork is a critical aspect of this role. The Fiber Technician must ensure that all documentation, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders, is completed correctly. The position may also involve additional duties as assigned, requiring flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform testing including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables.
  • Use a volt-ohmmeter to troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on cables.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords.
  • Terminate and breakout outside plant fiber.
  • Terminate indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber.
  • Install fan out kits including buffer tube.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Complete any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience with cabling and termination of fiber optic systems.
  • Knowledge of grounding requirements for racks and equipment.
  • Ability to perform continuity tests and troubleshoot cable issues.
  • Familiarity with using a volt-ohmmeter and tone set.
  • Experience in terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords.
  • Knowledge of indoor and outdoor fiber termination processes.
  • Ability to complete paperwork accurately and on time.
