About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will play a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of data center technologies. This position involves preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning IT equipment while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. You will work within a team to support Microsoft's cloud services, contributing to the efficiency and quality of service delivery in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates an understanding of standard processes for preparing, installing, and troubleshooting IT datacenter technologies.
  • Reviews Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understands their impact on work execution.
  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Provides guidance to less experienced technicians and escalates complex issues as needed.
  • Prepares and performs startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific instructions.
  • Performs diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components.
  • Communicates and escalates technical or safety-related incidents to management.
  • Participates in daily safety briefings and complies with safety procedures.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment by sharing information and collaborating with other shifts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • 1+ years of experience managing 24/7 hardware infrastructure.
  • 1+ years of experience with Linux CLI and networking equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years of experience in a production, mission-critical datacenter environment.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), and others.
