About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will gain hands-on experience in the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of IT datacenter technologies. This role is designed to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the Data Center environment, security protocols, and data management procedures, while contributing to the core infrastructure that supports Microsoft's cloud services. You will work under the guidance of experienced colleagues, participate in training programs, and have opportunities for career growth within a global network of data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT datacenter technologies.
  • Review Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understand their impact on work execution.
  • Comply with Data Center business unit policies and escalate compliance issues to management.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific instructions.
  • Learn about post-execution verification of grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling.
  • Perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components.
  • Communicate and escalate technical or safety-related incidents to management.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard business hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+) and Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
