About the position

The Data Center Technician at Astound Broadband is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of internal systems, workstations, and servers that support the daily operations of all Astound offices. This role involves providing responsive and efficient end-user support for various IT-related issues, ensuring the smooth functioning of the data center in Lanham, MD.

Responsibilities

• Provide first and second level support for problems relating to personal computers, printers, and other peripherals.
• Install, maintain, enhance personal computers, peripherals and network server components.
• Manage asset tracking system for all equipment.
• Maintain and enhance server base security, backups and virus protection.
• Participate in server/network hardware and software upgrade planning and implementation.
• Provide second level support to sys-admins staff members as required.
• Interact with other IT department's staff, senior management and vendors to resolve server/network related issues.
• Periodic on-call after hours/weekend required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 3 - 5 years progressive experience working with computer hardware, software, peripherals.
• 2+ years of experience with installing, maintaining, and managing major operating systems (MAC, MCSE, etc.).
• Prior experience with Ethernet switched environments, TCP/IP, DHCP, terminal emulation, client/server and internet concepts.
• Telecommunications experience preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong analytical, communication and written skills with the ability to convey clear and concise thoughts and ideas.
• Superior working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs, including MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
• Strong analytical ability to diagnose/repair computer/network problems.
• Ability to be on call after hours and weekends.
