About the position

The Data Center Technician at Glow Networks is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of OEM devices and equipment in data centers. This role requires extensive experience in data center operations, including site surveys, equipment installation, and cabling. The technician will ensure compliance with safety standards and document all work performed. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in central office or data center environments, focusing on both technical skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation and repair activities on OEM devices and equipment from Cisco, ALU, and other manufacturers.
  • Conduct site surveys and rack and stack equipment in data centers.
  • Run communications cabling, including power and ground connections.
  • Document all work performed according to customer standards.
  • Commission newly installed equipment and verify power-up.
  • Run new cabling and utilize existing cable plants as appropriate.
  • Install and test various types of cables, including 25 pair and CAT 5e cables.
  • Clean and test fibers using OTDR and perform port testing.
  • Read and understand Scope of Work (SOW) and Memorandum of Procedure (MOP).
  • Adhere to safety standards around low and high voltage electric power.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in data center or central office installation and maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • Expert installation skills with low-voltage electric and light gauge wiring.
  • Proficient with hand tools such as pliers, wire cutters, and screwdrivers.
  • Familiarity with Service Provider routers from Cisco and/or Nokia.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to train lower-level technicians as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with power tools such as battery-operated drills and electric soldering irons.
  • Familiarity with provisioning orders and troubleshooting processes.
