About the position

The Data Center Technician role involves performing various tasks related to fiber optic installation, testing, and troubleshooting within a data center environment. The technician will be responsible for cabling, termination, and splicing of fiber optic cables, ensuring all work meets industry standards and is documented accurately. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently and collaboratively while promoting the company's culture and mission.

Responsibilities

• Perform cabling and termination of fiber optic and copper cables.
• Mount and install racks, patch panels, and hardware.
• Conduct continuity tests and troubleshoot issues using volt-ohmmeter and tone set.
• Install various types of connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
• Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords and breakout outside plant fiber.
• Calculate end-to-end loss budgets according to TIA/EIA standards.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.
• Test fiber optic cables using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.
• Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber cables.
• Act as a liaison with customer representatives.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Proficiency in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems.
• Experience in testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems using OTDR and PMLS.
• 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics (preferred).
• Industry certifications (Corning/FOA) are preferred.
• Experience in data center installation is preferred.
• Mechanical and fusion splice experience is preferred.
• OSP/Confined Space Entry experience is preferred.
