About the position

Our client is seeking a Data Center Technician for a 6-month contract position located in Chandler, AZ. This role is crucial for maintaining the network environment and providing physical support for incidents and service requests. The technician will be responsible for racking, stacking, connecting, and providing basic configuration support for networking and server devices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of network cabling, both copper and fiber, and will be familiar with various networking hardware and tools. This position requires collaboration with remote Level 2/3 teams to resolve outages and assist in the installation of new services for customers. The technician will also participate in hardware installation, cable management, and testing connectivity after installation and configuration. Responsibilities

  • Maintaining network environment in support of physical touch (Smart Hands) support of Incident and or Requests.
  • Providing Incident support by working with remote Level 2/3 teams to assist in resolving outages and fixing issues including replacement of cabling or hardware components.
  • Providing Service Request Support working with remote Network Support Teams to install hardware or patch cables to enable new services for customers.
  • Participating in Hardware Rack & Stack installation of both Network and Server equipment, cable management, and installation of required Fiber and Copper Patch leads, providing console access to Remote Team for configuration if required and testing connectivity after installation and configuration.

Requirements

  • Higher education or degree preferred (but not required) or foreign equivalent required from an accredited institution.
  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in the specialty in lieu of every year of education.
  • 2+ years of experience in racking, stacking, connecting, and providing basic configuration support of networking or server devices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word primarily), Windows 10.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Structured Network Cabling.
  • Knowledge of Copper: Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, Connector Types - RJ45.
  • Experience with Fiber: Multimode, Single Mode, Connector Types - ST, SC, LC.
  • Familiarity with WIFI H/W, Wireless LAN Controllers, and Wireless Access Points.
  • Understanding of Networking, IP Addressing, Layer 2 VLAN etc.
  • Experience in Ethernet Switching H/W including Chassis, Supervisor, Line Cards, Power Supplies etc.
  • Knowledge of Transceiver Types - SX, LX, SR, LR etc.
  • Cable Troubleshooting Knowledge / Experience.
  • Experience with Fluke Testers: Copper - Wire Map, Link Test etc, Fiber - OTDR Testing.
  • Experience with Fluke Aircheck: Wireless Testing.
