About the position

The Data Center Technician position in Santa Clara, CA, is a contract role that offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $35 to $50. This position requires a strong technical background in data center operations and infrastructure management, with a focus on operating system installation, virtualization technologies, and networking. The technician will be responsible for the installation and configuration of Intel and AMD servers, as well as the deployment and management of Cisco Layer 2 networking equipment. The role demands hands-on experience in hardware quality assurance and troubleshooting, ensuring that all server hardware operates efficiently and effectively. The technician will work primarily during the night shift, from 6 PM to 2 AM, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities include rack building, cabling, configuring, and provisioning servers, as well as troubleshooting hardware issues through ticketing systems. The technician will also conduct basic lab administration and manage assets, ensuring that all operations run smoothly. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and partners, and communicate at an executive level. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Systems Security, or a related field, although extensive experience in data center operations may be considered in lieu of formal education. A minimum of three years of experience in a data center environment is required, along with proven Linux skills, including scripting and troubleshooting. The role also requires a Green Card holder or U.S. Citizen status due to potential travel requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Rack, build, cable, configure, and provision Intel and AMD servers
  • Deploy and manage Cisco Layer 2 networking equipment
  • Troubleshoot and perform quality assurance on server hardware
  • Resolve hardware issues efficiently through ticketing systems
  • Conduct basic lab administration, handle GitLab tickets, and manage assets
  • Perform shift duties (6 pm to 2 am local time) as required

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of data center operations and infrastructure management
  • Proven Linux skills, including scripting and troubleshooting
  • Experience with rack, build, cable, configure, and provision Intel and AMD servers
  • Proficient in cabling and deploying Cisco Layer 2 networking equipment
  • Hands-on experience in hardware quality assurance and issue resolution via trouble tickets
  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, Unix)
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and data center management
  • Advanced cabling knowledge, including port mapping and cable types
  • Familiarity with RAID levels and web server/database installations
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and multitask effectively
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including executive-level communication
  • Experience in cross-functional collaboration to resolve testing issues
