About the position

The Data Center Technician role involves supporting IT equipment and performing various tasks related to the maintenance and operation of data center hardware. This position requires a basic understanding of computer hardware and the ability to follow procedures for installation, diagnostics, and troubleshooting under the guidance of more experienced technicians.

Responsibilities

• Remove network cables as part of a datacenter decommission.
• Run, label, and stage power and networking cables.
• Follow procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment with guidance from Datacenter Technician Leads.
• Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware following written instructions, checklists, guides, and standard procedures.
• Conduct physical audits of datacenter assets.
• Perform post-execution quality checks and verify that grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are set up properly according to safety protocols and deployment standards.
• Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures, quickly identify the cause(s) of issues, and replace faulty components.
• Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes following standard procedures with minimal guidance.
• Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components.
• 6 months of experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
