About the position

As a Data Center Technician (DCT) at Microsoft, you will gain hands-on experience in the preparation, installation, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of data center equipment. This role is essential in supporting Microsoft's cloud services and offers opportunities for professional growth through training and development programs. You will work under the guidance of experienced technicians, contributing to the efficient operation of a global network of data centers while adhering to security and data management protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with guidance from experienced technicians.
  • Develops an understanding of effective execution order strategies for assigned tasks with assistance from experienced technicians or management.
  • Prepares, stages, sets up, and performs basic startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific written instructions.
  • Performs basic diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify technical issues and replace faulty components with minimal disruption.
  • Directly performs decommissions, simple changes, and refreshes of infrastructure cabling, network, storage, and server equipment following standard procedures.
  • Processes data-bearing devices for destruction or confirms identification for eradication with guidance.
  • Maintains awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through reporting dashboards for personal performance discussions.
  • Completes required security and data management training while complying with procedures and policies.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment by sharing information and collaborating with other technician teams.

Requirements

  • Understanding of standard processes and procedures for data center operations.
  • Ability to perform basic diagnostics and troubleshooting of hardware and network equipment.
  • Familiarity with security and data management procedures.
  • Capability to follow written instructions and checklists for hardware setup and maintenance.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting and climbing as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hardware installation and maintenance in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge of cloud services and infrastructure management.
  • Familiarity with performance metrics and reporting tools.
