About the position

The Data Center Technician position at Expedite Technology Solutions involves a variety of responsibilities centered around the installation, maintenance, and management of data center hardware and infrastructure. The technician will be engaged in both the physical and logistical aspects of data center operations, including the installation and removal of servers, as well as the replacement of parts on existing servers. A key part of the role includes monitoring the queue for tasks and ensuring that all hardware installations, such as rack and stack operations, are performed efficiently and effectively. The technician will also be responsible for cable installations, which encompass routing, terminating, and structured cabling, along with troubleshooting and testing these installations to ensure optimal performance. In addition to hardware installations, the technician will perform hardware decommissions and cable removals as necessary. Coordination with facilities staff is crucial to manage redundant power requirements for IT assets, ensuring proper load balancing and fail-over capacity to prevent cascading failures. The technician will also prepare and coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, verifying that packing lists match purchase details to ensure accuracy in received items. Remote hands support is another critical aspect of this role, which includes tasks such as power cycling, conducting physical environment checks, cabling inspections, swapping out failed components, performing hardware upgrades, and testing both copper and fiber cables. The technician will handle storage media and execute troubleshooting commands as needed. Additionally, granting site access to vendors and escorting third parties requiring data center access is part of the job, ensuring compliance with site standards. Daily housekeeping checks of the data halls will be conducted, with findings recorded for accountability. The technician will support Service Management processes by creating, updating, approving, and closing associated tickets related to service requests, incidents, and changes. It is imperative that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and adhered to for all tasks undertaken, ensuring safe working practices are maintained at all times.
