About the position

The Data Center Technician will be an integral part of a dedicated team responsible for various tasks within the data center environment. This role involves a range of responsibilities including the installation and removal of servers, as well as replacing parts on existing servers and monitoring operational queues. The technician will perform hardware installations, which include rack and stack operations, as well as cable installations that encompass routing, terminating, and structured cabling. Troubleshooting and testing of hardware will also be a key component of the role, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally. In addition to hardware installations, the technician will be tasked with decommissioning hardware and removing cables as necessary. Coordination with facilities staff is crucial to manage redundant power requirements for IT assets, ensuring proper load balancing and fail-over capacity to prevent cascading failures. Remote hands support is another critical aspect of this position, which includes performing power cycles, inspecting the physical environment, conducting cabling inspections, swapping out failed components, executing hardware upgrades, testing copper and fiber cables, handling storage media, and entering troubleshooting commands as needed. The technician will grant site access to vendors and escort third parties requiring data center access for approved activities, ensuring compliance with site standards. Daily housekeeping checks of the data halls will be conducted, with findings recorded for accountability. The technician will support Service Management processes by creating, updating, approving, and closing associated tickets related to Service Requests, Incidents, and Changes.
