About the position

The Data Center Technician will join the Data Center Operations team in Atlanta, GA, focusing on the installation, decommissioning, and repurposing of IT equipment. This role involves providing technical hands-on support to users while ensuring excellent customer service. Technicians will also be responsible for media destruction, file transfers, and supporting facility visitors, with opportunities to enhance the efficiency and utilization of the Data Center.

Responsibilities

• Racking and stacking of network devices
• Cable patching
• High-speed single option transport/fiber experience
• Physical layer troubleshooting
• Equipment disposal activities
• Installation of patching cables between network equipment and end devices
• Installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack
• Install/swap out, troubleshoot, and de-install devices (e.g., computers, cables, boards, routers, switches, etc.)

Requirements

• Requires appropriate equipment and training with high speed fiber optic transport
• Ability to clean high speed single mode optical connections
• Ability to measure, transmit and receive on high speed optics
• Knowledge and experience to work safely with high speed single mode long range optical lasers
• Strong troubleshooting background
• Proficient in utilizing technical tools such as board management controller (BMC), cable testers, and fiber testers
• Experience working in data centers
• Understanding of cable patching processes and procedures
• Basic knowledge of data communications networking
• Ability to assist in troubleshooting issues
• Understanding of network terminology
• Willingness to work in an on-call situation which includes nights and weekends.
