About the position

Shermco Industries is seeking a Data Center Testing Technician to join our team in Omaha, NE. In this role, you will be responsible for traveling to customer sites, both industrial and commercial, to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems ranging from 480 Volts to 600 kV. Your duties will include conducting instrument transformer tests, power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.), testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays, and performing cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot). You will also troubleshoot automatic transfer switches, test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, and perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering. Additionally, you will be required to rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform start-up of electrical systems.
  • Conduct instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.).
  • Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Perform cable testing including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a good driving record.
  • Prefer an Associate's degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college.
  • Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
  • Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB is a plus.
  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training.

Nice-to-haves

  • NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar certification is desired.
  • Experience with PowerDB software.
