About the position

Shermco Industries is seeking a Data Center Testing Technician to perform inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and data collection on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems at customer sites. The role emphasizes safety and client service, requiring travel to various industrial and commercial locations. Technicians will be responsible for a range of testing activities, including transformer tests and relay calibration, while also being on-call for emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on electrical systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing including Doble, TTR, and Insulation Resistance tests.
• Conduct cable testing such as Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot.
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches and perform testing on low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Calibrate moderately complex relays and power metering devices.
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
• Prefer an Associate's degree in Electrical Power & Controls or a related field, or equivalent military experience.
• Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; experience with PowerDB is a plus.
• Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
• Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training.

Nice-to-haves

• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar certification is desired.
• Experience with PowerDB software.
