About the position

The Data/Charge Entry Clerk at Winnie Community Hospital is responsible for performing admission and charge entry duties across various facilities and services. This role is essential for ensuring accurate processing of admission records and charge entries, which directly impacts the hospital's billing and revenue cycle. The clerk will work independently while maintaining confidentiality and meeting month-end deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Processes and files admission records using the facility's scheduling system, EMR, or other records systems.
• Secures necessary information from the facility or provider for admission records.
• Completes admission records based on provided information.
• Obtains and verifies insurance information as needed.
• Performs charge entry based on coding and service descriptions provided by the performing provider.
• Sends queries to performing facilities to obtain additional information for admission records or charge entries.
• Ensures episode visit information is accurate in the billing system.
• Completes admission and charge entry in a timely manner to meet month-end deadlines.
• Works independently and cross-trains in other areas as needed.
• Maintains confidentiality while handling confidential matters.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of office experience in a medical setting, preferably in a Business Office or Billing Office.
• Organized and dependable, able to work independently with little supervision.
• Familiarity with electronic health data systems.
• Knowledge of various insurance websites such as Navinet, Availity, UHC Link, etc.
• Basic understanding of billing and coding principles and medical terminology.
