About the position

As a Data & Control Systems Engineer I at Relativity Space, you will play a crucial role in the integration, checkout, and operation of data systems within our Long Beach facilities. This position is integral to the Factory Test team, which is responsible for hardware testing that spans from large structural tests to precise valve actuation. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of test systems, from initial concept through to test execution, ensuring that our innovative projects are supported by robust data and control systems. Your responsibilities will include hands-on work with hardware, collaborating closely with our technician team to build and debug projects. You will be tasked with setting up and checking out test stands for operations, which may involve testing critical components for the Aeon R engine or conducting full-stage structural tests for the Terran R rocket. This role requires a proactive approach to understanding the needs of new test campaigns, allowing you to configure and prepare data acquisition and control systems that collect accurate data in the right context. In addition to hardware integration, you will also engage with our operations and software teams to ensure seamless integration with our in-house data and controls platform. This includes writing and debugging automation scripts to control real hardware, thus enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our testing processes. Your work will not only contribute to immediate project goals but also support the long-term vision of advancing aerospace technology and additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Integration, checkout, and operation of data systems at Long Beach facilities.
  • Setup and checkout of test stands for operations, including testing critical valves and full-stage structural tests.
  • Understanding the needs of new test campaigns and configuring data acquisition and control systems accordingly.
  • Selection, integration, and configuration of instrumentation on test stands.
  • Designing data acquisition and control systems, including panel layouts and instrumentation lists.
  • Solving a wide range of technical challenges across various timeframes and complexities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals.
  • Experience with signal generators, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment to verify hardware designs.
  • Proven ownership and accountability in delivering products with stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • No previous aerospace experience is required.
  • Experience specifying, selecting, and integrating sensors and actuators such as pressure transducers and thermocouples.
  • Experience with COTS data acquisition systems such as NI, Dewesoft, Beckhoff.
  • Experience developing and tuning closed-loop control logic.
  • Familiarity with designing electrical control cabinets and wiring harnesses.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB for analysis or automation.
