The Health Disparities & Public Policy program at Northwestern University is dedicated to investigating health disparities in traditionally underserved populations. For over 30 years, the program has been conducting the Northwestern Juvenile Project, a longitudinal study that examines the health needs and outcomes of 1,829 youth who have been involved with the justice system, now with a median age of 43. Currently, the program is also conducting an intergenerational phase of this study, known as Next Generation, which focuses on the individual, interpersonal, and neighborhood factors that promote resilience in children. The Data Assistant plays a crucial role in this program by reviewing and processing incoming interview and administrative data. This includes ensuring coherence, identifying missing data, correcting coding errors, and addressing logical inconsistencies. The Data Assistant is responsible for maintaining accurate, timely, complete, and reliable data and reports by implementing data management and quality assurance procedures. This position also involves providing feedback to interviewers and study team members regarding systematic data errors or problems, as well as documenting revisions in codebooks and manuals. The Data Assistant will participate in team and departmental meetings to share experiences and learn about the work of other teams, contributing to problem-solving efforts. They will manage data receipt and tracking for assigned projects, detect trends, report on patterns of errors, and contact customers to obtain missing data. Additionally, the Data Assistant will compile and maintain codebooks, data files, and memos necessary for subsequent data analysis, while ensuring compliance with regulations regarding protected data. The role also includes editing, coding, and entering data per protocol, running reports, and performing basic data analysis, as well as cleaning and formatting datasets as needed.
