About the position

The Data Engineer 2 is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting data warehouse and cloud storage solutions that support company analytics. This role involves consulting with business counterparts to understand new data requirements and designing data models that align with those requirements. The Data Engineer will collaborate with senior engineers and architects to ensure that the data models fit within the company’s data and systems architecture. In addition, the Data Engineer will develop, test, and implement Extraction, Transform and Load (ETL) processes to acquire and load data from both internal and external sources into the data lake or data warehouse for analytical purposes. Monitoring and supporting ETL jobs is a critical part of this role, as is researching poor-performing ETL jobs and collaborating with database administrators and other resources to enhance the overall efficiency and stability of the data warehouse environment. The Data Engineer will also support and partner with business analytics users by identifying relevant data and delivering views, cubes, models, and other semantic objects to ensure ease of access to data for non-technical individuals. Providing technical and project documentation while utilizing agile project management methodologies is essential. Furthermore, this position will act as a technical mentor and advisor within the Data and Analytics team and its partners as needed, participating in the execution and planning of team work utilizing Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology (IT), or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with ETL technologies.
  • Experience in Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), and Microsoft Azure, Tabular Models, and Datafactory preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Structured Query Language (SQL) programming.
  • Preferred experience in other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure (preferred), Google Cloud).
  • Working knowledge of tools such as Power BI, Tableau, MicroStrategy, Business Objects, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Strong communication skills and self-motivated.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional programming languages beyond SQL.
  • Familiarity with other cloud services beyond Azure.
