About the position

The Data Engineer 4 position at a leading global footwear and retail company involves establishing and managing database systems, ensuring quality assurance for database deliverables, and coding complex programs. The role requires collaboration with various teams to adapt business requirements into effective database specifications and to evaluate and install database management systems. The position also emphasizes the importance of effective communication and problem-solving skills in a client-server environment.

Responsibilities

  • Establish database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy.
  • Document and communicate database design.
  • Evaluate and install database management systems.
  • Code complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms.
  • Build windows, screens and reports.
  • Assist in the design of user interface and business application prototypes.
  • Participate in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment.
  • Provide expertise in devising, negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database.
  • Adapt business requirements, developed by modeling/development staff and systems engineers, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application.
  • At more experienced levels, help to develop an understanding of client's original data and storage mechanisms.
  • Determine appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage organization.
  • Determine how tables relate to each other and how fields interact within the tables for a relational model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science or related technical subject area or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years relevant work experience in the Data Engineering field
  • Experience building scalable and high-performance cloud data lake solutions
  • Experience working on technologies like Spark, Airflow
  • Preferred platform experience of working either in Databricks/AWS for building big data pipelines
  • Experience with source control tools such as GitHub and related CI/CD processes
  • Strong problem solving and analytical approach
  • Proven ability to influence and communicate effectively with team members and business partners
