About the position

The Data Engineer at Meta Platforms, Inc. is responsible for designing, modeling, and implementing data warehousing activities that support informed decision-making across various products and domains. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, optimizing data pipelines, and ensuring data quality and governance. The position also requires project management skills and the ability to influence product teams to identify data opportunities that drive impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and implement data warehousing activities to deliver the data foundation for informed decision making.
  • Build and launch sophisticated data models and visualizations for multiple use cases.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data scientists to understand data needs and represent insights visually.
  • Define and manage SLA for all data sets in allocated areas of ownership.
  • Create frameworks to improve logging data efficacy and resolve data infrastructure issues.
  • Implement security models based on privacy requirements and address data quality issues.
  • Solve data integration problems using optimal ETL patterns and techniques.
  • Optimize pipelines, dashboards, frameworks, and systems for easier development of data artifacts.
  • Influence product and cross-functional teams to identify data opportunities.
  • Work on diverse problems requiring evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods for obtaining solutions.
  • Manage projects using Agile or Kanban methodologies.
  • Create detailed design reviews to represent architectural design options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Applied Sciences, or a related field.
  • Five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in the job offered or in a computer-related occupation.
  • Two years of experience in data ETL design, implementation, and maintenance on a large scale.
  • Experience programming in Python, Perl, Java, or PHP.
  • Proficiency in writing SQL statements.
  • Experience analyzing large volumes of data for insights, gaps, and inconsistencies.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing architecture and plans.
  • Experience with Informatica, Talend, Pentaho, dimensional data modeling, or schema design.
  • Familiarity with Map Reduce or MPP systems.
  • Experience with LAMP stack development.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop, HBase, or Hive.
