About the position

The Data Engineer in the area of Data Analytics & Delivery at MD Anderson Cancer Center plays a crucial role in operationalizing data and analytics for digital business initiatives. This position involves collaborating with various teams to develop end-to-end solutions, ensuring compliance with data governance and security requirements, and promoting effective data accessibility practices. The Data Engineer will participate in data requirements gathering, analytics deliverables, and training for data consumers, ultimately enhancing the institution's data capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in end-to-end solution delivery to increase information capabilities and realize data value.
  • Build out data sources and tools across the Context Engine framework, integrating data governance processes.
  • Incorporate data governance and metadata management processes into data ingestion and pipeline building efforts.
  • Promote Data Analytics & Delivery efforts and support relationships with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Gather data requirements for various analytics deliverables to ensure alignment with needs.
  • Implement data analytics deliverables including data analysis, reports, metrics, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Perform problem solving, testing, and analysis of data using SQL and NoSQL.
  • Collaborate with other data engineers on integration efforts and promote institutional data management strategies.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures and maintain build standards for data strategy support.
  • Participate in documentation preparation for enhancements or new technology implementations.
  • Perform quality control and testing of solutions to ensure technical soundness.
  • Assist in overseeing analytics system updates and new releases for assigned modules.
  • Participate in after-hours application support and downtime procedures.
  • Train data scientists, analysts, and end users in data pipelining and preparation techniques.
  • Establish training plans and develop curricula in partnership with the MDA Training team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Two years of relevant experience in clinical healthcare IT or business; may substitute education with experience on a one-to-one basis.
  • Experience in healthcare and prior data warehouse/business intelligence solutions preferred.
  • Must obtain at least one Epic Data Model certification within 180 days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in healthcare data analytics.
  • Familiarity with data governance and metadata management processes.
