About the position

The Data Engineer - Biopharmaceutical Production will play a crucial role in configuring non-GMP computer systems for the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) department. This position focuses on organizing manufacturing process information and supporting bioprocess monitoring and analysis. The ideal candidate will leverage their data engineering and software development skills to enhance operational performance in biopharmaceutical production, while also demonstrating a passion for data and life sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with MSAT staff to understand workflows and questions that originate in manufacturing and laboratory environments.
  • Collaborate with a larger data engineering team to develop analysis computer systems and tools aimed at improving E2E operational performance across various manufacturing sites globally.
  • Perform standard data engineering tasks including obtaining data extracts, defining secure data exchange approaches, and conducting data quality checks.
  • Acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources and systems into Big Data platforms.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to map data fields to hypotheses and prepare data for advanced analytical models.

Requirements

  • 4 years of work experience with Python, C#, Javascript, or other programming languages.
  • 2 years of work experience with SQL and data manipulation.
  • 1 year of work experience in a current good manufacturing practice biopharmaceutical production setting.
  • BS or higher degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience translating scientific or engineering workflows into automated systems.
  • Experience and interest in Cloud platforms.
  • Experience in traditional data warehousing and deploying ETL processes with Python.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Distributed Processing (Spark, Hadoop, EMR), traditional RDBMS (MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL), MPP (AWS Redshift, Teradata), and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra, Neo4J, Titan).
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, particularly in SCRUM teams.
  • Proficiency in data analysis techniques and a willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Ability to work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, extracting information and identifying linkages across disparate data sets.
  • Some knowledge of statistical process control and data analysis techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts and applications.
