About the position

TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video, with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy to over 1 billion users globally. The company is seeking a Data Engineer for its Experimentation and Evaluation team, which is dedicated to building a next-generation A/B testing platform. This platform is crucial for enabling data-driven decision-making across various product scenarios, including recommendations, ads, search, and mobile app interactions. The team is responsible for the entire experiment lifecycle, from design and creation to metrics calculation, statistical analysis, and final evaluation. As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing and expanding one of the largest data platforms in the world, directly impacting core products and millions of users. In this role, you will design and build efficient and reliable data transformations for various purposes, such as reporting and growth analysis. You will also be tasked with creating robust and scalable big data systems that support TikTok's core products and business needs. Establishing solid design principles and best engineering practices will be essential, not only for technical staff but also for non-technical stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with diverse systems within the data platform ecosystem, contributing to rapid iterations and bold hypotheses testing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build data transformations efficiently and reliably for different purposes (e.g. reporting, growth analysis, multi-dimensional analysis)
  • Design and implement reliable, scalable, robust and extensible big data systems that support core products and business
  • Establish solid design and best engineering practice for engineers as well as non-technical people

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in Big Data technologies (Hadoop, M/R, Hive, Spark, Metastore, Presto, Flume, Kafka, ClickHouse, Flink etc.)
  • Experience with performing data analysis, data ingestion and data integration
  • Solid communication and collaboration skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Working industry experience with Big Data systems and projects
  • Experience in building large scale distributed systems in a product environment
  • Experience with ETL (Extraction, Transformation & Loading), architecting data systems, schema design, and data modeling
  • Experience in writing, analyzing and debugging SQL queries
  • Experience in data privacy and security related projects
