About the position

The Data Engineer I position is designed for individuals passionate about data and eager to build and support Big Data systems that drive various business functions through near real-time data analytics solutions. The role involves collaborating with teams to design, implement, and maintain data infrastructure that supports key business decisions and operations, reporting to the Data Engineering Manager within the technology division of the advertising business.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support ETL pipelines using Snowflake, AirFlow, Looker, Kafka, and Spark.
  • Handle petabyte-scale data ingestion with Spark/Snowpipe.
  • Design partitioning and clustering strategies for efficient OLAP operations on large Snowflake tables.
  • Collaborate with product teams to translate business requirements into data pipelines.
  • Own and scale core data pipelines, providing support and bug fixes.
  • Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and follow best practices.
  • Generate reports using SQL, Python, Spark, and LookML.
  • Work on PoCs to test emerging technologies.
  • Enhance and build reports in Looker as needed.
  • Continue skill development under mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of software engineering experience (Java/Scala/Python).
  • Experience with large-scale distributed data systems (AWS, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake, BigQuery).
  • Minimum 2 years of overall experience.
  • Strong understanding of SQL databases.
  • Familiarity with AWS services, serverless architecture, and containers.
  • Ability to orchestrate data processing systems (Airflow).
  • Quality code writing and building secure, highly available systems.
  • Experience with dataframes (Pandas, Dask, Spark).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts effectively.
  • Self-starter with initiative, collaborative, and eager to adopt new technologies.
