About the position

The Data Engineer (DE) role at USAA involves engaging in all phases of the data management lifecycle, including gathering and analyzing requirements, processing, storing, securing, and archiving data. The DE will develop and maintain technical systems for data reporting and solutions utilizing emerging technologies, while partnering with the business to ensure alignment with business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Identify and manage existing and emerging risks from business activities and the job role.
• Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
• Follow written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities.
• Design and implement technical solutions.
• Identify and solve significant technical problems and architecture deficiencies.
• Participate in daily standups and design reviews.
• Breakdown business features into technical stories and approaches.
• Analyze data and enable machine learning.
• Create proof of concepts and prototypes.
• Help on-board entry-level engineers.
• Collaborate with the team and other engineers to plan and execute assignments and tasks.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or in an engineering-related occupation.
• Alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Software, Computer Engineering, Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, or related field and 12 months of experience in an engineering-related occupation.
• Experience with Cloud Computing - AWS; Redshift; SQL; Unix Shell Scripting; Snowflake and DBT (Data Build Tool); Hadoop and Spark; Python; Agile Methodologies; Control-M and Apache Airflow; and Git (CI/CD Automation).
