About the position

The Data Engineer II position at Amazon Health Science & Analytics involves designing and building reliable and performant data models and pipelines to provide actionable insights for cross-functional partners. The role requires a strong background in data engineering, particularly in data modeling, warehousing, and ETL pipeline construction, with a focus on utilizing modern data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake and Big Query. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams to drive data-informed decision-making and ensure data quality across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with teams across the company to develop flexible and scalable analytics for insights and decision-making.
  • Design and build reliable, performant, and high-quality data models and pipelines.
  • Build out suites of standard KPIs/metrics.
  • Define how to model and warehouse data accessed by teams and analysts.
  • Engage in code reviews to ensure maintainable code.
  • Build data quality detection tools to identify and fix data issues.
  • Ensure critical systems have up-to-date documentation.
  • Participate in scheduled support rotation for maintaining and troubleshooting pipelines.
  • Champion data-informed decision-making among internal stakeholders.
  • Build and improve data tooling in partnership with data engineering and platform teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Knowledge of modern data warehouse technologies (Snowflake, Big Query).
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience with AWS technologies (Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda).
  • Experience with non-relational databases/data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases).
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Healthcare industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Apache Airflow.
