About the position

The Data Engineer II position at Amazon Health Science & Analytics involves designing and building reliable data models and pipelines to provide actionable insights for cross-functional partners. The role emphasizes data exploration, problem-solving, and effective communication to drive business impact and support decision-making across various teams.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal teams to develop flexible and scalable analytics for insights and decision-making.
  • Design and build reliable, performant, and high-quality data models and pipelines.
  • Build out suites of standard KPIs/metrics.
  • Define data modeling and warehousing strategies for company-wide access.
  • Engage in code reviews to ensure maintainable code.
  • Build data quality detection tools to identify and fix data issues in transformation stages.
  • Ensure critical systems have up-to-date documentation.
  • Participate in scheduled support rotation for maintaining and troubleshooting pipelines.
  • Champion data-informed decision-making among stakeholders.
  • Build and improve data tooling in collaboration with data engineering and platform teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience.
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelines.
  • Knowledge of modern data warehouses (Snowflake, Big Query).
  • Proficiency in SQL.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AWS technologies (Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda).
  • Experience with non-relational databases/data stores.
  • Healthcare industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Apache Airflow.
  • Proficiency in Python.
