About the position

As a Data Engineer II (Business Data Analyst) at TD Bank, you will play a crucial role in providing a broad range of data engineering functions that are essential for the effective management and utilization of data within the organization. Your responsibilities will encompass various aspects of data management, including data modeling, data quality assurance, data profiling, data acquisition and ingestion, as well as extract, transform, load (ETL) processes. You will also be involved in metadata enrichment and management, ensuring data provenance and lineage, and executing other specialized data management functions. In this position, you will be expected to possess advanced knowledge of data engineering frameworks, technologies, tools, processes, patterns, and procedures. This knowledge will not only enhance your ability to perform complex technical tasks independently but will also allow you to understand how these elements impact other technology areas such as architecture and infrastructure. You will design and develop solutions that meet both business and technical requirements, analyze and adapt existing systems, integrate and code new solutions, and test and debug these systems to ensure their effectiveness. Your role will also require you to use and evolve established patterns to solve complex problems, and you may be recognized as a subject matter expert in areas directly related to your key accountabilities. You will perform data analysis and assess data management requirements for specific platforms or journeys, maintaining expert knowledge of upstream data through data profiling and quality reporting. Additionally, you will support the acquisition and ingestion of data, articulating complex technical design and development details to non-technical business partners, and ensuring compliance with enterprise data standards, policies, and guidelines. Collaboration will be a key aspect of your role, as you will build effective working relationships within your team and across partner teams to encourage collaboration on all deliverables. You will coordinate with various technology work teams to ensure overall delivery success and support the QA team with data analysis and investigations of complex issues during testing phases. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring that data is effectively managed and utilized to support the bank's operations and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a broad range of data engineering functions including data modeling, data quality, data profiling, data acquisition and ingestion, ETL, metadata enrichment and management, data provenance and lineage.
  • Perform complex technical tasks independently and design solutions to meet business and technical requirements.
  • Analyze, adapt, integrate, code, test, debug, and execute data management processes.
  • Use and evolve established patterns to solve complex problems and lead the development of new patterns where necessary.
  • Perform data analysis and assess data management requirements for specific platforms or journeys.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of upstream data and support the acquisition and ingestion of data.
  • Articulate complex technical design and development details to non-technical business partners.
  • Elicit, analyze, and understand business and data requirements to develop complete business solutions, including data models and ETL processes.
  • Ensure data compliance with enterprise data standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain complex data models and ETL jobs using industry-standard tools.
  • Provide support to development and testing teams to resolve data issues and escalate complex issues as needed.
  • Build effective working relationships within the team and across partner teams to encourage collaboration on deliverables.

Requirements

  • Degree, Postgraduate Degree, or Technical Certificate in Data Management or related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of data engineering frameworks, technologies, tools, processes, patterns, and procedures.
  • Ability to perform complex technical tasks independently and design solutions to meet business and technical requirements.
