About the position

As a Data Engineer II at our facility in Minneapolis, Minnesota, you will be an integral member of the Pethealth Prescription Platform team. This role involves participating in the architecture of system and data tiers, focusing on performance tuning, and assisting with the development of performance-critical SQL code. You will also be responsible for managing data storage configurations and implementing strategies for data integrity and failover, which are crucial for the Pethealth business. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with other data engineers and software developers to troubleshoot and resolve data integrity and performance issues within the systems. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn about various database platforms and technologies, enhancing your skill set and contributing to the team's success. You may also collaborate with Pethealth's Data Science teams as needed, ensuring that data-driven decisions are supported by robust engineering practices.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in system and data tier architecture.
  • Performance tuning and database development of performance-critical SQL code.
  • Manage data storage configuration.
  • Architect and implement data integrity and failover strategies for the Pethealth business.
  • Collaborate with other data engineers and software developers.
  • Troubleshoot and address data integrity and performance issues in the systems.
  • Learn additional database platforms and technologies.
  • Work with Pethealth's Data Science teams as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Information Systems, or related field and 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience.
  • 2 years of experience with relational and non-relational database technologies.
  • Experience working with databases in public Clouds, preferably AWS.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodology and tools.
  • Software development experience and knowledge of modern software development processes.
  • Experience with at least two of the following database platforms: Aurora Postgres, SQL Server, Snowflake, DynamoDB, SQL, CDC, ETL.
  • Experience in performance tuning and database development.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and Python.
  • Functional knowledge in Ecommerce, Retail, or Supply Chain.
  • Experience with at least one high-level programming language commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, or Scala.
