About the position

Walmart Global Tech is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Marketplace Engineering team, which focuses on building core platforms and services that enable third-party sellers to manage their products on Walmart's marketplace. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business problems, draft technical requirements, and develop scalable systems that enhance the customer experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, cloud application development, and a passion for solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business problems and draft technical requirements.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy services and systems for the marketplace platform.
  • Perform design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to improve operational excellence.
  • Create and enhance medium-sized applications and services within a large application.
  • Contribute to all layers of the stack, from front-end development to back-end services and data.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in building highly resilient, highly scalable systems.
  • Expertise in Java, Python, and Scala.
  • Hands-on experience in API development, GQL, and Node.js.
  • Experience with Hadoop, Hive, Spark using Scala, Vertex AI, Presto/Trino, Kubernetes, and Data Lake concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of complex software design, distributed system design, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Skilled in data modeling and data migration protocols.
  • Familiarity with public cloud technologies such as Azure or Google Cloud Platform.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Kafka connect, Druid, Big Query, and Looker.
  • Experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences and knowledge of accessibility best practices.
