About the position

Old National Bank is seeking a Data Engineer III to join our team, responsible for the development and implementation of technical solutions that support our internal and external customers' data exchange and integration needs. This role is pivotal in helping us transition to a modern data platform, particularly focusing on integrating our Salesforce platform and digital banking platform. As a Data Engineer, you will leverage your technical expertise in database applications, ETL processes, and automation to create scalable data products and platforms. You will work in an office environment, collaborating with team members and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into effective data solutions. In this position, you will be expected to design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes, ensuring operational excellence by monitoring and validating the health of our data products. You will also be responsible for creating repeatable frameworks and functions that can be utilized by other data engineers within the bank. Your role will involve close collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Data Governance teams to ensure that our data solutions align with organizational standards and best practices. The ideal candidate will have over five years of data engineering experience, with a strong background in developing ETL/ELT processes and a preference for experience with SSIS/Azure Data Factory. You should possess excellent problem-solving skills, a passion for technology, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This position may require travel to other branch or meeting locations, and you will be expected to follow the development team's SDLC process while meeting project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes.
  • Create repeatable frameworks and functions for use by other data engineers.
  • Ensure operational excellence by monitoring and validating data product health.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Info Security, and Data Governance teams.
  • Study systems flow, data usage, and work processes to improve efficiency.
  • Deliver functional data products that are thoroughly tested.
  • Follow the development team's SDLC process and accurately estimate project timelines.
  • Work closely with DBAs to design, model, and maintain database objects.

Requirements

  • Over 5 years of data engineering experience, including developing ETL/ELT processes.
  • 3 years of experience with SSIS/Azure Data Factory preferred.
  • Knowledge of Python and experience with scripting tools such as Python and/or C#.
  • Expertise in building scalable data products and platforms with a focus on metadata-driven approaches.
  • Experience working with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into data solutions.
  • Experience with orchestration tools or job schedulers for data loading and movement.
  • Very good working experience of T-SQL, including complex stored procedures and query optimization.
  • Knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC) and preserving historical data from various source systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, using Azure DevOps or JIRA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Azure Databricks for enterprise Data Lake.
  • Working knowledge of analytical and data visualization technology such as Power BI.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data architectures using the Azure stack, Databricks, and/or Snowflake.
