About the position

The Boating Intelligence (BI) Design Lab at Brunswick is seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer Intern to join our innovative team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on developing and maintaining robust data pipelines using Python, which are essential for ingesting and preprocessing raw data from various sources. As a Data Engineer Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the training and validation of machine learning models by ensuring that the data is clean, well-structured, and ready for analysis. Your contributions will directly impact the quality of data collected from vessels during on-water testing, and you will have the chance to work independently on implementing data validation and monitoring processes to maintain data integrity. In this role, you will document your processes and maintain organized, efficient code, which is vital for the success of the projects you will be involved in. You will collaborate with multiple engineers across divisions, gaining hands-on experience and applying your academic knowledge in a practical setting. Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and optimize the data pipelines and databases for model training and validation.
  • Collaborate with test engineers and technicians to create interfaces that can improve metadata collection and processing.
  • Process data from various sources such as raw files, cloud services, etc., into forms compatible with downstream data classes.
  • Implement methods for automating data ingestion and unit tests for validating pipeline.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in an engineering or relevant Bachelor's/Master's program at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
  • Proficiency with Python programming.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud storage platforms (Azure preferred).
  • Experience with data processing libraries like Numpy, Pandas, etc.
  • Basic understanding of Data modeling and machine learning concepts.
