About the position

VSolvit has an immediate opening for a Data Engineer to support our Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Corona Division customer in Norco, California. The individual plays a crucial role in managing and optimizing data infrastructure to support Navy operations, intelligence, and decision-making. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines, ensuring the efficient processing and integration of large data sets from various sources. The Data Engineer works closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to provide reliable data that can be used for advanced analytics, machine learning models, and real-time decision-making processes. As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and architecture.
  • Working closely with data architect, data engineers, and data analysts to ensure the availability and reliability of data pipelines and systems.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable and high-performance data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements and develop efficient data assets.
  • Implementing data integration, transformation, and cleanse pipelines using industry best practices.
  • Designing and implementing data models and schemas to support business reporting and analytics.
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and data quality issues.
  • Managing and monitoring data storage, backup, and recovery systems.
  • Performing data validation, testing, and ongoing data quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years of demonstrable professional experience working as a Data Engineer.
  • Expert knowledge of data processing and transformation techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, and/or other coding languages.
  • Experience working with Git.
  • Experience with data engineering low-code and no-code tools.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing data models and schemas.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Government or DoD (Navy, Army, Marine Corps, or Air Force) entities.
  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Active or inactive Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
