About the position

The Data Engineer Lead at Steampunk is responsible for developing enterprise-grade data platforms, services, and pipelines to support clients in achieving their mission and business goals through effective data strategies. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a passion for data and problem-solving. The position involves leading the migration of data environments, assessing ETL jobs, and addressing technical inquiries related to data products, while also mentoring junior team members and contributing to the growth of the Data Exploitation Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and architect migration of data environments with performance and reliability.
  • Assess and understand the ETL jobs, workflows, BI tools, and reports.
  • Address technical inquiries concerning customization, integration, enterprise architecture and general feature/functionality of data products.
  • Craft database/data warehouse solutions in cloud environments, preferably GCP, or alternatively Azure or AWS.
  • Support an Agile software development lifecycle.
  • Act as an individual contributor and mentor more junior team members.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years industry experience coding commercial software and a passion for solving complex problems.
  • 8-10 years direct experience in Data Engineering with experience in tools such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres, CloudSQL, MongoDB.
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift (or Azure and GCP equivalents).
  • Experience with data streaming systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, etc.
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring and optimization (SQL).
  • Experience manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets.
  • Experience with data modeling tools and process.
  • Experience architecting data systems (transactional and warehouses).
  • Experience aggregating results and/or compiling information for reporting from multiple datasets.
