About the position

The Data Engineer Manager at Suburban Propane is responsible for overseeing the architecture and management of data systems, ensuring data accuracy and quality, and resolving data issues. This role involves designing and implementing ETL processes, preparing data for internal stakeholders, and making data accessible through reporting platforms. The manager will analyze data to derive insights and communicate findings to support data-driven decision-making, while proactively identifying areas for improvement in data systems and processes to align with business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a staff of direct reports, responsible for coaching, counseling and assisting with development of individual career development and training plans
  • Architect best in class Enterprise Data Analytics foundation (warehouse, lake, datamarts) in the Azure Cloud (Azure Data Fabric) for consumption by multiple data presentation applications
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness of the data storage systems during implementation and post-implementation phases
  • Participate in the design of the Logical Roadmap for Data Migration
  • Participate in developing comprehensive plans and roadmaps for migrating multiple data sources to cloud platforms, specifically Azure Data Fabric
  • Participate in the overall project planning defining milestones, timelines, and deliverables aligned with business objectives
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and businesses SMEs to understand and translate goals and objectives into data & analytics architectures and models
  • Provide technical expertise for product teams that are building foundational solutions using the Azure Cloud platform
  • Ensure adherence to all data governance policies, procedures and standards throughout the process and the ultimate solution
  • Evaluate new tools, frameworks, and solutions that could enhance data architecture and migration strategies
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements and emerging technologies in cloud computing and data engineering
  • Manage and contract with vendors necessary to accomplish the aforementioned activities; includes vendor selection and vendor relationship management
  • Ensure all established Sarbanes Oxley ITGC controls are enforced

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in computer science, information technology or related field
  • 6-10 years of experience delivering data architecture and solution architecture for data management, data engineering and data operations
  • Strong, hands-on experience with the backend components of Azure Data Fabric including Synapse Data Warehouse, Azure Synapse Analytics, One Lake (Data Lake), Data Factory, and Data Bricks
  • In-depth understanding of data engineering principles, data architecture, and data management practices
  • Expertise in Data Warehousing/Dimensional Modelling
  • Expertise in SQL Server
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable data solutions
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and Power Apps
  • Fundamental knowledge of ETL Processing
  • Knowledge of Azure DevOps
  • Demonstrates a problem-solving approach to challenges
  • Ability to work independently and pay close attention to detail
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills accompanied by well-developed organizational and time management skills
  • Possess solid decision making along with strong negotiation skills
