About the position

As a Data Engineer at US Tech Solutions, you will play a pivotal role in leading and participating in design sessions with various stakeholders, including Engineering teams, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and IT personnel. Your primary responsibility will be to document data processing, storage, and delivery solutions that align with business capabilities and IT solutions. You will work closely with Product Managers and functional IT stakeholders to understand business needs and apply this knowledge to define the problems that need to be solved. In addition to your design responsibilities, you will initiate and lead evaluations of new technologies, performing proof of concepts (POCs) and presenting your findings to the team. Your role will also involve helping the team establish and improve processes and methodologies, such as SCRUM or Kanban, and potentially leading the piloting of new methodologies. You will implement data solutions according to design documentation using a variety of tools and programming languages, including AWS and GCP cloud solutions, Kafka, SQL, and non-SQL databases, Python, Scala, and Go. Your participation in code reviews, retrospectives, and testing will be crucial in improving the quality of delivery. You will also provide reliable estimates for large-scale projects and collaborate with Product Owners and other engineers to align roadmaps and delivery dates. As a mentor, you will coach junior Data Engineers and facilitate cross-team efforts to improve processes and share information. Your ability to communicate effectively with various audiences, including business partners and technical teams, will be essential. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining design and code documentation in repositories such as GitHub and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in design sessions with Engineering teams, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and IT stakeholders.
  • Document data processing, storage, and delivery solutions based on design sessions.
  • Understand business capability needs and processes to define business problems that need to be solved.
  • Initiate and lead evaluation of new technologies, performing POCs and presenting results.
  • Help establish and improve processes and methodologies like SCRUM or Kanban.
  • Implement data solutions using tools and programming languages such as AWS, GCP, Kafka, SQL, Python, Scala, and Go.
  • Facilitate and participate in code reviews, retrospectives, and testing activities.
  • Provide reliable estimates for large-scale projects.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners and engineers on planning and aligning roadmaps and delivery dates.
  • Coach and mentor junior Data Engineers.
  • Facilitate cross-team efforts like Scrum of Scrums and Release Planning.
  • Create and maintain design and code documentation in repositories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 6 years of experience or Master's degree with 4 years of experience in Engineering, Operation Research, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Strong experience building data models using R, Python, or other statistical programming packages.
  • Experience with engineering data-intensive software using streaming and resource-based design principles.
  • Technical expertise in software development best practices, including Version Control and Code Documentation.
  • Experience with at least one cloud-native data warehouse database such as BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake.
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies, including Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies for processing data at scale, including Kafka, Spark, AWS SQS, and others.
  • Demonstrated advanced business acumen and project leadership competencies.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting complex analyses clearly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
