About the position

GDIT is seeking a Data Engineer for the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Ordnance Information System (OIS). This role involves providing technical expertise to develop, modernize, enhance, operate, and maintain services for mission-critical systems. The Data Engineer will collaborate with a team of Data and Cloud Architects, Engineers, and Administrators to design, build, deploy, and maintain data architectures and databases in the AWS GovCloud environment. This position is remote but requires approximately 10% travel for client and team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, construct, test, and maintain high performance, scalable, and stable data architectures for OIS.
  • Migrate data from on-premises databases to cloud-based solutions, transforming the data as required.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and build out new API integrations.
  • Implement and manage databases and data delivery systems, transforming them into insights, analysis, and reporting.
  • Identify, research, design, develop, and promote solutions that enhance the modern development environment.
  • Implement data extraction, data load, and database synchronization routines and functions (ETL).
  • Implement data governance and quality controls and monitor ETL/ELT jobs to ensure performance.
  • Improve system performance by conducting tests, troubleshooting, and integrating new elements.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure data infrastructure supports required functions and performance metrics.
  • Document data architecture and systems for both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related experience in data engineering or a similar field.
  • Must have DOD Secret level clearance to start; U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Security+ certification (must have to start).
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Data Engineer or similar equivalent Cloud environment certification (highly preferred).
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with other querying languages.
  • Experience in decomposition of Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and triggers to migrate to Amazon Aurora DB, Postgres, or MySQL.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated experience in network and cyber security design, engineering, and operations with emphasis on Navy capabilities.
  • Experience with cloud data services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with MicroStrategy, Erwin Data Modeler.
  • Experience with RabbitMQ.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages like Python, Java, Scala, or Go.
