About the position

The Data Engineer position within the Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement (OSE) is responsible for developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that supports the office's operations. This role involves ensuring data accessibility, improving system reliability, and creating databases and reporting systems to address agency business challenges. The Data Engineer will collaborate with stakeholders to leverage data effectively and develop tools for data analysis, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing public safety through data-driven strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the data infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources.
  • Ensure data accessibility at all times and implement agency data policies regarding data privacy and confidentiality.
  • Improve data systems reliability and performance.
  • Create optimal databases, pipelines, and reporting systems to solve agency business problems.
  • Provide platforms that enable OSE data consumers to analyze and gain insights from data.
  • Convert data from primary and secondary sources into formats usable by Dynamics, OSE researchers, and other data consumers.
  • Develop data tools and APIs for data analysis to streamline manual processes.
  • Maintain code and documentation using DevOps.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand how data can be leveraged to meet OSE's needs.
  • Develop algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information.
  • Manage special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in voice and/or data telecommunications or a related area, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, with one year in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in voice and/or data telecommunications or a related area and five years of experience as described above.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of specialized experience as described above, including 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience.
