About the position

The Retail Pharmacy Data & Products team at CVS Health is seeking a Data Engineer who will play a crucial role in developing scalable data pipelines, optimizing data workflows, and ensuring the quality and integrity of data. This position is part of a robust and agile development and product group that focuses on CVS Health's retail pharmacy data and related products and applications. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual with strong communication and organizational skills, demonstrating a proven ability to work collaboratively within a team. The role requires a willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies in a fast-paced environment. In this position, the Data Engineer will contribute to the development of new product features using various technologies, including Oracle, Snowflake, and BigQuery. The candidate will participate in Agile scrum activities and project status meetings regularly, engage in user story grooming and design discussions with technical leads, and analyze complex data structures from disparate sources to design large-scale data engineering pipelines. Strong programming skills are essential for building robust ETL (Extract/Transform/Load) processes, designing database systems, and developing tools for data processing. The Data Engineer will work closely with other developers on ETL job and pipeline development, perform all data engineering job activities including development, testing, deployment, and support, and document data engineering processes and workflows for knowledge-sharing purposes. Implementing data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency is also a key responsibility. The candidate must be a team player, collaborating with team members to provide business solutions and implementations.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new product features utilizing various technologies including Oracle, Snowflake, and BigQuery.
  • Participate in Agile scrum activities and project status meetings regularly.
  • Engage in user story grooming and design discussions with technical leads.
  • Analyze complex data structures from disparate data sources and design large-scale data engineering pipelines.
  • Build robust data pipelines for ETL processes, design database systems, and develop tools for data processing.
  • Collaborate with other developers on ETL job and pipeline development.
  • Perform all data engineering job activities including development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Document data engineering processes, workflows, and systems for reference and knowledge-sharing purposes.
  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Work collaboratively with team members for business solutions and implementation.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in executing Data warehousing ETL projects.
  • 1+ years of experience with SQL.
  • 1+ years of experience with Python.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with bash shell scripts, UNIX utilities & UNIX commands.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, Azure).

Nice-to-haves

  • GCP experience - BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Python, Cloud Composer/Airflow, and Cloud Storage.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying data transformation and processing solutions in relational and analytical database technologies such as Oracle, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
  • Ability to leverage multiple tools and programming languages to analyze and manipulate data sets from disparate data sources.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within and across teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies including waterfall and agile.
  • Health care/retail domain experience.
  • GCP certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience in developing APIs utilizing Java or Python is a plus.
