About the position

As a Senior Data Engineer at Booz Allen, you will play a crucial role in maintaining, improving, cleaning, and manipulating data within the business's operational and analytics databases. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with software engineers, data analytics teams, data scientists, and data warehouse engineers to understand and implement database requirements, analyze performance, and troubleshoot existing issues. You will be instrumental in the development and deployment of innovative big data platforms that facilitate advanced analytics and data processing. In this position, you will define and build data pipelines that enable faster, better, and data-informed decision-making across the organization. You will support software developers, database architects, data analysts, and data scientists on various data initiatives, ensuring that optimal data delivery architecture is maintained throughout ongoing projects. Your expertise will be essential in automating data integration and management processes, including extract, transform, and load (ETL) operations, as well as data cleanup tasks. This role requires a strong foundation in manipulating, processing, and extracting large, disconnected datasets, along with proficiency in Python scripting and data cleansing. You will also need to have experience working with various SQL or NoSQL databases and knowledge of industry-standard ETL tools such as Informatica, SSIS, Talend, or Pentaho. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with open-source data ingestion tools and the AWS ecosystem, including AWS Lambda and RDS, while supporting cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve data in business operational and analytics databases.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data analytics teams, data scientists, and data warehouse engineers to implement database requirements.
  • Analyze performance and troubleshoot existing data issues.
  • Develop and deploy innovative big data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing.
  • Define and build data pipelines for data-informed decision-making.
  • Support software developers, database architects, data analysts, and data scientists on data initiatives.
  • Ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with developing solutions to automate data integration and data management processes, including ETL or data cleanup.
  • Experience with manipulating, processing, and extracting large, disconnected datasets.
  • Experience with Python scripting and data cleansing.
  • Experience in working with a variety of SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard ETL tools, including Informatica, SSIS, Talend, or Pentaho.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with open-source data ingestion tools, including Nifi and Spark.
  • Experience with AWS Ecosystem, including AWS Lambda, RDS and other managed services.
  • Experience in supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
