About the position

GDIT is seeking a Data Engineer Senior to support its Technology Shared Services (TSS) Data and Analytics organization. This role focuses on delivering insights to help clients turn data into actionable solutions, addressing big-data challenges, and advancing client missions. The Data Engineer Senior will be responsible for developing, customizing, and maintaining web services, managing complex Tableau reports, and designing data pipelines for efficient data processing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, customize, and maintain public-facing web services to provide system health and usage metrics.
  • Build and manage complex Tableau reports and drill downs.
  • Handle data migrations, data modeling, and schema creation.
  • Design and develop relational databases at an expert level.
  • Implement and maintain data pipelines for ETL processes.
  • Build and manage cloud-native data architectures in AWS and Azure.
  • Identify information needs, data relationships, and reporting capabilities.
  • Lead new data development ensuring consistency with existing data warehouse structures.
  • Review business requests for data and research new data sources.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on data processes and architecture.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts for performance and functionality.
  • Design data dictionaries and manage database applications.
  • Present insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with teams to understand data needs and create solutions.

Requirements

  • BA/BS and 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple freeware relational databases (e.g., MySQL, MariaDB).
  • Fluency in developing complex Tableau reports and drill downs.
  • Proficiency with Linux, command line tools, and shell scripting for data extraction and transformation.
  • Experience with database analytics and data structure alignment.
  • Proficient in database administration and SQL.
  • Ability to understand and discuss complex data structure designs.
  • Experienced in data modeling and normalization techniques.
  • Familiarity with various data structures, including relational and semi-structured databases.
  • Experience in database migrations, both homogenous and heterogeneous.
  • Proficient in Python for data analysis and engineering tasks.
  • Skilled in programming languages like Python, R, SQL, and data visualization tools like Tableau.
