About the position

The Senior Data Engineer at Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) plays a crucial role in managing and organizing the enterprise data of the company. This position is responsible for translating requirements and designs into functional data pipelines, ensuring the quality and completeness of the information. The Senior Data Engineer will work with raw information from various sources to create consistent and machine-readable datasets that facilitate analysis and support company initiatives. This role involves collaboration with other Data Engineers and Data Analysts on data initiatives, ensuring that the data delivery architecture is optimal and consistent across ongoing projects. Additionally, the Senior Data Engineer will implement methods to enhance data reliability and quality, improve data visibility, and reduce manual effort through automation. In this role, the Senior Data Engineer will contribute to a team of data engineers by engaging in design discussions, demand delivery, code reviews, release management, and implementation tasks. Mentorship of fellow data engineers and contributions to ongoing process improvements are also key responsibilities. The position requires evaluating business needs and objectives to align architecture and designs with these requirements. The Senior Data Engineer will build the necessary data pipelines for optimal extraction, transformation, integration, and loading of raw data from diverse sources. They will assemble large, complex datasets and model data to meet both functional and non-functional business requirements. Furthermore, the role involves creating data tools for analytics team members to generate innovative insights that provide a competitive advantage for the business. Implementing data tagging mechanisms and metadata management to ensure accurate classification and visibility of data within the organization is also essential. The Senior Data Engineer will build processes to identify and enhance data quality, consistency, and effectiveness, while ensuring compliance with information privacy and protection policies. The use of agile software development processes to iteratively improve data management systems is a critical aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute on a team of data engineers through design, demand delivery, code reviews, release management, implementation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Mentor fellow data engineers and contribute to ongoing process improvements for the team.
  • Evaluate business needs and objectives and align architecture/designs with business requirements.
  • Build the data pipelines required for the optimal extraction, transformation, integration and loading of raw data from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets and model our data in a way that meets functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Create data tools for analytics team members that assist them in generating innovative industry insights that provide our business a competitive advantage.
  • Implement data tagging mechanisms and metadata management so data is accurately classified and visible to the organization.
  • Build processes to help identify and improve data quality, consistency and effectiveness.
  • Ensure our data is managed in a way that it conforms to all information privacy and protection policies.
  • Use agile software development processes to iteratively make improvements to our data management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's/Tech School degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent and/or commensurate years of real-world experience in software engineering.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in data management.
  • 3+ years in data engineering with detailed knowledge of data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ELT.
  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization.
  • Experience in data acquisition, transformation and storage design using design principles, patterns and best practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Data engineering certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in the Wine and Spirits industry.
