About the position

The Data Engineer at Leidos will play a crucial role in analyzing data attributes for the design of logical data models, supporting mission-critical projects. This position involves collaboration with software developers, database administrators, and security engineers to ensure the effective collection, storage, protection, and analysis of data at scale. The engineer will be responsible for developing strategies to ensure data quality and transforming raw data into actionable information, all while working in a dynamic environment that prioritizes employee growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Support the acquisition of datasets that align with business needs
  • Develop algorithms to transform data into useful, actionable information
  • Build, test, and maintain the database pipeline architectures
  • Create data validation methods and data analysis tools
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies
  • Build logical data models used for defining the database schema
  • Analyze complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources

Requirements

  • Must have an active TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Typically requires a Master's with 15+ years of prior relevant experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and data sets
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • History of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large disconnected datasets
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, and Redshift
  • Experience with object-oriented / object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, etc.
