About the position

The Data Engineer at Discover Financial Services is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining complex data solutions. This role emphasizes quality and timely delivery of data solutions while mentoring peers and providing technical thought leadership. The Data Engineer will actively manage risks and customer-impacting issues, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team and across functions.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex data integration solutions with advanced data transformations.
• Mentor and influence team members to meet commitments and contribute to agile ceremonies.
• Utilize various tools for data profiling, security, and governance controls.
• Design advanced SQL queries and leverage metadata-driven frameworks for solutions.
• Develop test scripts for unit and integration testing.
• Lead code review sessions and process improvement initiatives.
• Communicate upstream and downstream impacts of changes in the data pipeline.
• Participate in on-call support rotation and demonstrate effective communication in meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in Data Platform Administration/Engineering.
• Technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale (internal applicants only).

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with data related to Financial and Marketing domains.
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools such as AbInitio, DataStage, and Informatica.
• Experience with cloud tools and databases like AWS and Snowflake.
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Unix scripting and Python.
• Experience with CI/CD frameworks for data integration.
• Basic understanding of infrastructure concepts related to data centers and cloud hosting.
