About the position

As a Data Engineer at AbbVie, you will be part of a dynamic and inclusive Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team dedicated to driving digital transformation within a leading biopharma company. Your role will focus on developing data-centric solutions that enhance the education of physicians regarding AbbVie's approved products, ultimately aiding them in making informed treatment decisions for their patients. This position is hybrid, based in Lake County, IL, and offers a collaborative and Agile work environment where you will work closely with Data Scientists, Analytics Specialists, Marketing, and other business functions. Your primary responsibilities will include the extraction and combination of various internal and external data sets, onboarding and structuring data for efficient reporting and analytical applications, and ensuring the accuracy and relevance of data through rigorous testing. You will also be responsible for discovering available data, managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships, and performing data analysis and reconciliation on datasets of varying sizes and complexities. Additionally, you will compile and present data engineering estimates and status updates directly to stakeholders, acting as a liaison between the digital brand team and the BCo BTS. Responsibilities

  • Extraction and combination of multiple internal and external data sets.
  • Onboarding, consolidating, cleansing, and structuring data for efficient use in reports, analytical applications, and machine learning models.
  • Pressure-testing data requirements to ensure accurate and meaningful data delivery.
  • Responsible for discovery of available data.
  • Responsible for effective cross-functional stakeholder management.
  • Performing data analysis and reconciliation on datasets of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Compiling and presenting accurate data engineering estimates.
  • Presenting data engineering status directly to the data and business stakeholders.
  • Liaison between the digital brand team (DBT) and BCo BTS.
  • Explaining distributions of data to the data and business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in relevant field and at least 5 years relevant experience OR Masters degree in relevant field and at least 4 years experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in communicating complex technical concepts to business stakeholders.
  • Effective in managing stakeholders from various business functions and engaging proactively in conversations that drive toward meaningful and timely business outcomes.
  • Must be proficient in the following data analysis programming languages: SQL & Python.
  • Must understand, and be able to apply, data lake and relational database concepts.
  • Must be proficient in gathering data and technical requirements from cross-functional partners.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, interpret metrics, and make data-driven decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Dataiku.
  • Understands the pharmaceutical ecosystem including personas of providers, patients, payers, distributors, and policy makers.
  • Experience with R and Spark programming languages.
