About the position

The KBR team in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a highly motivated Data Engineer to join us in supporting our great nation, specifically on the Air Force Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (TENCAP) HOPE contract. Air Force TENCAP exploits National capabilities to deliver rapid, cost-dominant, and innovative warfighting solutions. This is accomplished by analyzing emerging technologies, building partnerships with industry and academia, and prioritizing urgent operational needs. The Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines to support our organization's data-driven projects and initiatives. This position requires a strong foundation in data engineering concepts, proficiency in relevant technologies, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient data solutions. Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and hold an active TS/SCI or TS with T5/SSBI security clearance within the last two years.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines to support data-driven projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient data solutions.
  • Develop scalable ETL and ELT workflows for reporting and analytics.
  • Operationalize and maintain complex data applications at enterprise scale.
  • Automate and optimize data processes to present to upper management.
  • Combine diverse data sources to produce comprehensive data packages.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science; other degrees considered with relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data modeling, and data architecture.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing data flows using Apache NiFi.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Bash, Python, .Net, or Java.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache open-source products like Kafka, Zookeeper, and Spark.
  • Proficiency in SQL with experience in writing complex queries.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • DoD 8140 Cyber Workforce Basic Qualification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent).
  • Experience with XML Schemas.
  • Understanding of real-time data streaming concepts and frameworks like Apache Kafka Streams or Apache Flink.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment using tools like Jira or Confluence.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and experience with tools like Git, Jenkins, or Bamboo.
  • Experience with Kubernetes / Docker.
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization tools like MS Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.
