About the position

Immediate need for a talented Data Engineer. This is a 12+ months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Atlanta, GA. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, work independently, and have direct experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from design to deployment. A deep understanding of the full life data lifecycle and the role that high-quality data plays across applications, machine learning, business analytics, and reporting is essential. Strong candidates will exhibit solid critical thinking skills, the ability to synthesize complex problems, and a talent for transforming data to create solutions that add value to a myriad of business requirements. The Data Engineer will demonstrate the ability to lead and take ownership of assigned technical projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and speaking communication skills are required as the role involves working in a collaborative cross-functional environment and interacting with the full spectrum of business divisions. Candidates should demonstrate unsatiated curiosity and outstanding interpersonal "soft" skills. Ideal candidates possess not only the necessary knowledge or skill set but also a "can do" mindset to find solutions. The Data Engineer will serve as a liaison with business users, guiding them through their problems to identify the best path forward. Additionally, the role may involve providing technical counsel to other Data Engineers on the team and reviewing their work to ensure successful integration of all efforts to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and manage all aspects of the software development lifecycle, from design to deployment.
  • Lead and take ownership of assigned technical projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Serve as a liaison with business users to identify the best path forward for their data-related problems.
  • Provide technical counsel to other Data Engineers and review their work for quality assurance.
  • Transform data to create solutions that add value to business requirements.
  • Mentor junior team members through code reviews and recommend adherence to best practices.
  • Develop initial queries for profiling data and validating analysis.
  • Continuously improve the quality, efficiency, and scalability of data pipelines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • At least 4-6 years of post-degree professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Airline industry.
  • 2+ years of development experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines.
  • 2+ years of experience working with database technologies and data development such as Python, PLSQL, etc.
  • Experience in mentoring junior team members through code reviews and recommending adherence to best practices.
  • Deep understanding of writing test cases to ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Track record of advancing new technologies to improve data quality and reliability.
  • Expert skills in working with queries/applications, including performance tuning and utilizing indexes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data ingestion best practices and data design.
  • Familiarity with data quality assessment specifications and deployment paths.
